Oh really!...How can a spreadsheet exercise possibly help me to build a stronger, happier, high performing team?
James Beer of Brixx Software writes some great blogs on that a business plan is, and what it's not. This is a particularly good one and it explains clearly what the outcomes are and why they're useful.
I'd add the following two points though...the process of building a forecast helps you to focus on what's essential to build your business I would therefore recommend ensuring that you build out from the dry financial process and make it real for team....visualise how the world looks good when you achieve your plan and imagine what you can do from there....now think back fro that good place in your mind and list out what you, and your team has done to get you there. That's the best starting point to aligning your whole team around achieving its goals and ambitions and allowing all your teams members to develop real insight into how what they do contributes to the success of the Company. You won't succeed without your team, and your team will perform well if it knows what the goals are and contributes to setting them.
